"I see a lot of parallels between mushing and Multiple Sclerosis. Slowly, continuously and unpredictable physical functions decrease. Every day is a new challenge, planning difficult, fatigue a given. There were times during Iditarod I could barely stand on my feet cause I was so tired. My mother is huge a source of inspiration for me during such moments."

The Iditarod and the Yukon Quest are amongst the most heroic races on Earth. Both cover nearly 1,100 miles of ruthless nature in the vast land of Alaska. When Grizzlies hibernate, Northern Lights decorate the sky and days become nights, mushers try to cover this distance as fast as they can. Sixteen brave dogs and their driver are put up to the test.
Mushers are pushed to their physical and mental limits: sleep deprivation, snowstorms, 40 below weather,…. where the moon enlightens Alaska’s heavenly beauty to the sound of howling wolves. For 9 up to 14 days mushers leave civilization behind and indulge themselves in 1,100 of Mother Nature’s cruelest miles.
This winter Sam is training with Iditarod champion Mitch Seavey again. He's signed up for the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest. He wants to dedicate his participation in these races to all people living with MS who face their own tremendous physical and mental challenges every day. He wants to raise respect, recognition, awareness and appreciation for their every day accomplishments, whether it’s walking to the store, climbing stairs or maybe dealing with desperation.
