Hallo sam, ik vond zo tof dat eeen zo'n staffe gast het opneemt voor M.S. patiênten. Het verdriet en het kortzichtige gedoe dat anderen mensen aan doen wordt onderschat. Ikzelf werd de diagnose  gestelt in feb 2009 en intussen ben ik zowat imobiel geworden. No problem live goes on, doesn't it, lost a lot but being positive makes you gain a lot. Dank je wel voor je steun

Hi Sam!

My name is Zachary and I'm 11 years old.  In our home school coop, we studied the Iditarod and I chose you to cheer on.  My friend chose Pat Moon.  It was wierd when I found out that you saved him.  I felt so proud when I heard the story.  You have such a good heart.  I'm sure your mom was very proud of you too!

Thanks for saving my friend's musher.  I hope you decide to race again next year.  Know that I will be cheering for you again!

Tomtesterom

Sommigen onder jullie kennen misschien dit programma van op de VRT, waarbij Tom Waes allerhande zotte uitdagingen aangaat aan de hand van handleidingen. Zonet heeft hij ook de Marathon des Sables uitgelopen, een marathon door de Sahara in Marokko. In een interview dat vandaag in de Standaard staat het volgende:

'Hoe overleef ik de Marathon des Sables' was de laatste opdracht voor het tweede seizoen van Tomtesterom, waarin Tom Waes aan de hand van zeven handleidingen evenveel onmogelijke uitdagingen aangaat. 'Veel mensen vroegen me na de eerste reeks: wat ga je nu nog kunnen verzinnen? Wel, ik heb gezocht naar zeven opdrachten waarbij ik mijn eigen limieten écht moest verleggen. Een paar opdrachten die op papier leuk leken, zijn gesneuveld, juist omdat ze me fysiek of psychologisch niet genoeg uitdaagden.'

'Nu zal je zeggen: voor Hoe word je schlagerzanger? moet je toch geen limieten verleggen? Wel, ik kan je verzekeren: als je voor 12.000 dronken Hollanders op een festival een nummer moet zingen, dat is even zwaar als de Marathon des Sables.' Het is iets wat Jesse Fabré, de eindredacteur van Tomtesterom, spontaan bevestigt. 'Ik heb Tom één keer echt zien sterven en dat was daar, vlak voor hij opmoest. Al zijn er natuurlijk ook andere opdrachten waarbij hij het verre van makkelijk heeft gehad. Toen hij sledehondenmenner probeerde te worden, belde hij me uit Noorwegen: Dit doe ik nooit meer.'

Van alle uitdagingen die hij aangaat, de ene al onmogelijker lijkende dan de andere, pikt hij er die laatste uit :-)

Sam, ik denk dat anderen bij deze bevestigen dat jij heel wat gepresteerd hebt :-)

How are you doing?

Oh I was  wondering why you haven't put a page on your web site just about your dogs and your dogs names.

If you ever do get a chance can your take pictures of your dogs and put their names on there so we know what their names are and then put them on your web site. PLEASE & THANK YOU!!

Congratulations to Sam for winning "Most Improved Musher" Award. I
saw him on the stage accepting it at the finishers banquet on the
Iditarod Insider. I still think that he should have also won the
Sportsmanship award for helping Pat Moon. Ray Reddington won that
award instead. Maybe the ITC was trying to give awards to a lot of
different mushers. Pat Moon was expected to come home with the dogs
on Tuesday, here to Michigan.

Ikzelf ben ook patient. Woon nog niet zolang in het Brugse .Waarschijnlijk zal ik je wel leren kennen op één of ander gebeuren bij de MS -liga

We hadden je al gezien in 'Een simpel plan' en we horen ook van jou via  Steven (mijn broer) . Maar  'k heb eindelijk de tijd genomen om jouw passie & project eens - dankzij de blog - van wat dichterbij te volgen. In één woord: knap.

fuif voor MS

Hallo Sam,

 

Wij waren zaterdag op de 70-80-90 fuif ten voordele van jouw project.

We hebben goed gefuifd op jouw veilige aankomst.

Hilde , Elise en Arno, Griet en Geert, Lore, Lise en Jeroen , Robbe en wij  waren aanwezig.

Lore is er niet in geslaagd haar vader van de dansvloer te houden en Hilde heeft ontdekt dat fuiven best wel nog leuk kan zijn.

Er was veel ambiance, stickers, een spandoek van de MS-liga en een  powerpoint met beelden van jou en de honden maakten iedereen duidelijk waarom er gefuifd werd!

Het is hier wat afkicken van het volgen van de race op de computer.

Geniet daar nog verder van rust en familie

Goe gedaan Sammy, wel vervelend dat je zo snel ging op het einde, had eens de schrik van mijn leven omdat ik je niet meer vond op de deelnemerslijst, maar je was gewoon kwenie hoeveel plaatsen vooruitgeschoven !!

We zijn content dat je heelhuids toegekomen bent en de rest van de familie er is om je te verwelkomen.

Samen genieten is de boodschap !!!

Thank you for the nice things you wrote.  We just watched the GPS and saw Sam cross the finish line!!!! #41 finish!  We are so excited!!!!  He is my favorite musher!!! I'll bet his mom is giving him a big hug right now!!  Mommy looked for pictures of Sam on Facebook and found some from the Iditarod 2010.  Alaska looks really exciting. 

I have to get back to my schoolwork now!

We just checked and you have only 197.2 miles to go and we have no doubt that you will make it - and with a smile on your face!  We have had so much fun following the race and  cheering for you!  Last night we watched the live feed as Lance Mackey come in first! It was fun to watch the excitement from so far away!

I'm praying for you Sam - that you will be safe and finish well.  We can't wait to see the video of you reaching Nome!  I'm sure your family will be really happy!  No matter what time of day, I'll be watching!

In my Iditarod class we are having our own little Iditarod and on my team I and the 'lead dog' because I am the best at navigating. This week we will be praparing 'drop bags'. I've learned so much - this is going to be so fun!

News from the trail

Just talked to my sister in Nome and they are expecting Lance in first early this afternoon. YAY! Though Hans Gatt was moving very fast now and my sister is worried he will catch up! She said Nome is quite the experience so far and she can't wait to see some finishers! She said there is lots of activity and parties! :-) More later.

I was reading about the accident that Pat Moon was in and realized that it was your friend Sam who was the musher who found him then stopped to help him. In my eyes Sam is a hero. As my son Dave is out on the trail it is reassuring to know there are people like your friend Sam there too. Because of a cancellation, we were just able to get a room at the finish line.
